How to recognize the Asian honeybee.
The Asian honey bee (Apis cerana) is 10mm long. The European honeybee (Apis mellifera) is 15mm long. Being smaller and less hairy with more prominent banding on the abdomen than the European honeybee.

Asian honey bees remain an important pest for Biosecurity Queensland to monitor, particularly because they are natural hosts for Varroa mites. A highly destructive mite that has the potential to destroy European honey bee colonies and the honey industry.
